Dodecyl sulfide is a chemical compound that is used in the synthesis of recombinant proteins and amides. It is a white, waxy solid with a coconut-like odor. Dodecyl sulfide is soluble in water and has a high melting point. The molecule can be used to study reactions at high salt concentrations or reactions involving fatty acids. Dodecyl sulfide reacts with DNA to form covalent bonds that can be used as markers for studying genome dna. This compound also reacts with cell lysis, increasing the thermal expansion of polystyrene particles and altering their chemical properties. Dodecyl sulfide contains an hydroxyl group which can react with any chemical species to create new structures.
