Dimethocaine is a local anesthetic that is used in ophthalmology and dentistry. It is also used as a topical anesthetic, especially in the treatment of mouth sores. Dimethocaine has been shown to inhibit angiogenesis by preventing the release of various angiogenic factors from endothelial cells. Dimethocaine binds to dopamine receptors, which causes its uptake into cells, including human liver cells. The binding affinity for dopamine receptors increases with increasing basicity of the structure of dimethocaine.
