N,N′-Ditridecylperylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic diimide (DTTC) is a semiconductor with a high electron mobility. DTTC was shown to improve the transport properties of brain cells in culture. The functional theory for DTTC is based on the assumption that the electron density distribution in the molecule is dipolar and that the molecule has an enhanced electric field effect. DTTC has been used as a substrate for lithography and to study extracellular and intracellular calcium concentrations. It also has been used to investigate morphology and physiology in brain cells.
