1-[2,4-Dihydroxy-6-methoxy-3-(3-methyl-2-buten-1)phenyl]-3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)- 2propenone (xanthohumol) is a natural compound that has been shown to have antiangiogenic properties. Xanthohumol binds to toll like receptor 4 (TLR4), which is an innate immune system protein that detects bacterial and viral components. The binding of xanthohumol to TLR4 inhibits the activity of angiogenic process. It also has genotoxic effects, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the synthesis of DNA and RNA in vitro. Xanthohumol also has potential anticancer agent properties and may be used as a detoxification enzyme inhibitor.
