Descrição:21-Deoxycortisone is a synthetic glucocorticoid that is used to treat inflammatory and autoimmune disorders. Unlike other synthetic glucocorticoids, it has a high affinity for the mineralocorticoid receptor and can be used in the treatment of adrenal insufficiency. 21-Deoxycortisone binds to the 17-hydroxyprogesterone receptor and inhibits the enzyme phospholipase A2. This prevents arachidonic acid from being released into the cell membrane, which blocks prostaglandin synthesis and reduces inflammation. 21-Deoxycortisone has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties in vitro by preventing the release of reactive oxygen species from mitochondria in calf thymus DNA. It also inhibits mitochondrial respiration in celastrus angulatus, an effect that is blocked by incubation with hydroxyl group substrates such as phosphorus pentoxide or water.
