N-Desmethyl tamoxifen hydrochloride is a non-steroidal antiestrogen that competes with estradiol for estrogen receptors. It is used in the treatment of breast cancer, as well as other cancers that require antiestrogens, such as prostate cancer or endometrial cancer. Tamoxifen has been shown to be effective in palliative treatment and palliative care, which are treatments that provide relief from pain and other symptoms without curing the disease. Tamoxifen also reduces the risk of recurrence of breast cancer by about 50%.
