O-Desmethyl-N-deschlorobenzoyl indomethacin is a structural analog of the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug indomethacin. It binds to and inhibits the activity of epidermal growth factor receptors, which are important for cell growth and differentiation. O-Desmethyl-N-deschlorobenzoyl indomethacin has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in vitro and in vivo, with no effect on normal tissue. It also has a protective effect against radiation induced damage in hematopoietic cells. This drug has been shown to have a high affinity for epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and inhibits the production of thymidylate, which is an essential precursor for DNA synthesis.
