3,4-Diaminobenzonitrile is a chemical compound that belongs to the group of unsymmetrical diamines. It has antioxidative properties and can be used for the synthesis of hydroxy derivatives. 3,4-Diaminobenzonitrile also has been shown to have serine protease inhibitory activity in vitro and hydroxy derivative analogues are being developed as anti-inflammatory drugs. 3,4-Diaminobenzonitrile is also used as an intermediate in the Suzuki coupling reaction to form triazines and can be formulated into hydrochloride salts or diphenyl ethers. This molecule is a strong fluorescer and can be used for biphenyl detection by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). 3,4-Diaminobenzonitrile is also a precursor to nitro compounds.
