3,4-Difluorophenylacetylene is a synthetic compound that has been shown to have neuropathic pain relieving properties in animals. It interacts with adenosine receptors and blocks the pain signal from the peripheral nervous system. 3,4-Difluorophenylacetylene is orally bioavailable and crosses the blood-brain barrier. This compound is being used for the treatment of chronic neuropathic pain, including neuropathy caused by diabetes or chemotherapy. 3,4-Difluorophenylacetylene also has been shown to be effective in animal models of intestinal inflammation.
