N,N-Dimethyl-4-nitroaniline is a chemical compound that belongs to the group of nitro compounds. It is an intermediate in the synthesis of other chemicals such as N,N-dimethylaniline, 4-nitrodiphenylamine, and 2-nitrophenylhydrazones. The vibrational and photochemical properties of this molecule are similar to those of nitromethane. N,N-Dimethyl-4-nitroaniline has a molecular weight of 166.24 g/mol and its solubility in water is less than 1 g/100 mL at 25°C. This substance has been shown to be stable under hydrochloric acid conditions with no evidence for hydrogen bonding or dipole formation between molecules. This chemical compound also shows low fluorescence intensity in nonpolar solvents.
