1,3-Dimethylpyrazole is a compound with the molecular formula CHN. It is an organic methylating agent that has been used as a pesticide. The synthesis of 1,3-dimethylpyrazole includes the reaction of 1,3-dichloropropene with dimethylamine and formaldehyde in the presence of sodium methoxide. 1,3-Dimethylpyrazole is an isomer of 3-methylpyrazole, which also has been used as a pesticide. This process involves the reaction of 2-chloroethanol with formaldehyde and ammonia in the presence of sodium methoxide to produce 2-(2'-chloroethoxy)ethanol. The product is then reacted with potassium hydroxide to produce 2-(2'-chloroethoxy)ethylamine hydrochloride (1,3-dimethylpyrazole).
