L-DOPA isopropyl ester (L-DOPAi) is an experimental drug that belongs to the group of carboxylate solvents. It has been shown to increase dopamine levels in the brain and reduce symptoms of Parkinson's disease. L-DOPAi is a short-chain alcohol that can be used as a solvent for other chemicals or as a starting material for more complex compounds. The compound also has tyrosinase inhibitory effects, making it useful in the treatment of skin disorders such as melasma. L-DOPAi has been shown to be safe at oral doses up to 30 mg/kg body weight in rats and monkeys, with no observable toxic effects.
