3,3-Dimethyl-2-oxopentanoic acid is an organic compound which is a metabolite of valine in humans. It is a hydrophobic molecule and can be reduced by enzymes to form 3,3-dimethyl-2-oxovaleric acid. 3,3-Dimethyl-2-oxopentanoic acid has been shown to have reductive amination activity with phenylalanine and leucine, which suggests that it may be able to convert these amino acids into other compounds such as lysine or alanine. This conversion could potentially be used in the production of lactobacillus.
