Di-tert-butyl malonate is a synthetic, organic compound that belongs to the group of quinoline derivatives. It is used as a reagent in the synthesis of other organic compounds. The compound has been shown to be effective against metabolic disorders, such as fatty acid oxidation disorders and ketoacidosis. In addition, it has been shown to reduce levels of trifluoroacetic acid, which can accumulate in the body due to an imbalance in metabolic processes. Di-tert-butyl malonate can be synthesized from aryl halides and trifluoroacetic acid in the presence of an acidic catalyst such as hydrochloric acid or hydroxide solution.
