Ditiocarb sodium is an organophosphorus compound that has been shown to be effective in the treatment and prevention of infectious diseases. It is used in water and wastewater treatment, as well as for the removal of gaseous chlorine from water vapor. Ditiocarb sodium also has antitumor activity, which is mediated by its ability to inhibit DNA synthesis. It has been shown to have a response element that is similar to the response element of tumor-suppressor p53, which leads to its antitumor activity. Ditiocarb sodium also inhibits GSH-px activities and may have interactions with other drugs such as diethyldithiocarbamate (DDC). The drug has been used in experimental models of bowel disease to reduce inflammation and improve symptoms.
