3,4-Difluorobenzoic acid is a synthetic fatty acid. It is used as a reagent in the preparation of fatty acids and their derivatives for use in analytical methods. 3,4-Difluorobenzoic acid has potent antibacterial activity against various bacteria and can be used to treat bacterial infections. 3,4-Difluorobenzoic acid can be synthesized by reacting chloroacetic acid with difluoroacetic anhydride. This compound is metabolized through the transport pathway of bile acids and conjugated with glycine or taurine. 3,4-Difluorobenzoic acid is also metabolized by beta oxidation to form benzoate and then chloride which are excreted through urine.
