Decahydroisoquinoline is a potent antagonist that binds to the subunits of the NMDA receptor. It has antiviral potency and inhibits chronic arthritis in mice. Decahydroisoquinoline also inhibits locomotor activity in rats, which may be due to its ability to inhibit glutamate release. In addition, decahydroisoquinoline has been shown to have an affinity for CB2 receptors and bind to them with high affinity. Decahydroisoquinoline also demonstrates matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) inhibitory properties as well as biological properties that are characteristic of aromatic hydrocarbons. Decahydroisoquinoline is structurally similar to human liver metabolites and can be found in rat striatal tissue.
