2,3-Dichlorothiophene-5-sulfonamide is a regiospecific sulfonamide that has been synthesized as an analog of acetazolamide. It has affinity for the carbonic anhydrase and inhibiting properties in human erythrocytes. 2,3-Dichlorothiophene-5-sulfonamide has been shown to inhibit the enzyme carbonic anhydrase with a potent inhibition, which makes it a potential drug for the treatment of glaucoma. Molecular modeling studies have suggested that 2,3-Dichlorothiophene-5-sulfonamide binds to the active site of carbonic anhydrase and forms hydrogen bonds with residues from both sides of the active site. The binding is stabilized by a salt bridge formed between 2,3-Dichlorothiophene-5-sulfonamide and Asp102. This study suggests that 2,3-D
