Dach platinum dinitrate is a coordination compound of platinum with nitric acid. It has cis-dichloro-platinum(II) and trans-dichloro-platinum(II) complexes, which are directional in the sense that they have different oxidation states. The cis complex is more stable than the trans complex. Dach platinum dinitrate is not active against murine leukemia in vitro but does inhibit the growth of L1210 cells. Dach platinum dinitrate has been shown to be active against bacteria and fungi when used as an antiseptic or disinfectant because it can cause cell lysis by causing denaturation of proteins and disruption of DNA strands. The mechanism of action for this compound is thought to be due to the formation of reactive oxygen species, such as hydrogen peroxide, which causes oxidative damage to the cell's DNA and proteins.
