Dimethylformamide dibutyl acetal is a light, colorless liquid that is soluble in organic solvents. It has a boiling point of 202°C and a density of 1.039 g/mL. Dimethylformamide dibutyl acetal is used as an adsorbent for the removal of nitroaromatic compounds from solution. The reaction solution containing the nitro compound and the adsorbent can be heated to between 100°C and 150°C for about 12 hours in order to break down the nitro compound into non-toxic products. This process can also be used to remove other impurities from oil or paint. Dimethylformamide dibutyl acetal reacts with cyanoindole, which is found in blood pressure medication, to form indole-7-carboxylic acid via a glycosidic bond. Reaction with hydroxyl groups leads to cyclopentene oxide formation and glycan formation
