Dibutyl phosphite is a colorless liquid with a pungent odor. It is used as an additive to stabilise the viscosity of glycol esters and as a curing agent for epoxy resins. Dibutyl phosphite reacts with hydrochloric acid to form dibutylamine, which is used in the production of synthetic rubber. Dibutyl phosphite also reacts with methyl ethyl ketone and n-dimethyl formamide to form polycarboxylic acid, which is used in the manufacture of phenolic resins.BR>
Dibutyl phosphite has been shown to have antioxidant properties, protecting fatty acids from oxidation by reacting with unstable hydrogen atoms.
