Dimethylisopropylchlorosilane is a chlorosilane with reactive groups on both the methyl and isopropyl side chains. It can be used as a cross-linking agent in polymer membranes, where it forms covalent bonds with the membrane material. Dimethylisopropylchlorosilane is also used in wastewater treatment, where it can react with hydroxyl groups to form silanol groups. This process increases the solubility of organic compounds and their subsequent removal from water. The diameter of dimethylisopropylchlorosilane is 4 nm, which makes it suitable for use in metathesis reactions that require large molecules. Dimethylisopropylchlorosilane has been shown to be resistant to thermal degradation and chemical stability.
