3,4-Difluorobenzenethiol is an ester that can be used for chemical ligation. It reacts with primary amines to form a thioester. This reaction also requires a cocatalyst such as pyridine or triethylamine. The resulting thioester can be hydrolyzed to the corresponding alcohol and amine. 3,4-Difluorobenzenethiol is also used in protein synthesis, where it functions as a potent cytotoxic agent. The cytotoxicity of 3,4-difluorobenzenethiol is enhanced by the presence of chloride ions and when reacted with pyridine or triethylamine as cocatalysts. The reaction time is dependent on the type of multivariable technique used.
