The functional groups on this molecule are uncharged and able to penetrate the hydrophobic region of the membrane bilayer. This molecule has shown to be taken up by cells and may interact with methoxy groups on the surface of the membrane. 3,5-Dibromo-1-trimethylsilylbenzene has been synthesized using nature as a model and can be used in modelling studies.
