Dibenzyl-4,4'-bipyridinium Dichloride Hydrate is a chemical compound that is activated by UV irradiation. It has been shown to be an effective antimicrobial agent against dental plaque and other bacterial biofilms, with the ability to reduce the redox potential of the bacterial cells. The structure of this compound has also been determined using carbon nanotubes and polycarboxylic acid in an organic solvent solution. This compound can be used as a biosensor for the detection of quaternary ammonium salts, hydroxyl groups, and viologens.
