Dipropyl adipate is used as an extraction solvent and in the manufacture of other chemicals, such as glycol ethers, polyvinyl butyral, and dibutyl phthalate. It is also used as a lubricant for plastic parts of various machines and instruments. The thermal expansion coefficient of dipropyl adipate is 2.2×10−5/°C at 25 °C.
