Fluorans are a class of organic compounds that display fluorescence. Fluorans are typically synthesized from fluoran dyes and an amine. The fluorescence of these compounds is usually in the visible region, but can also be seen at ultraviolet wavelengths. Fluorans are used in many applications in which they emit light, including as a colorant to render objects visible under infrared or ultraviolet light; as a recording medium for video and audio, due to their high sensitivity to heat and light; and as a heat-sensitive paint.
