Dichlorododecylmethylsilane is a treatment method for silicon and germanium surfaces. It is used as an activator for the hydrochloric acid-based treatment of these surfaces. It can be used to cross-link organic molecules, such as polymers and resins, with other molecules that contain hydroxyl groups or chlorine. This compound has a high chemical stability because it does not react with water or most common solvents. Dichlorododecylmethylsilane is also a nucleophilic agent that can react with divalent hydrocarbons, such as inorganic chlorides, to form strong bonds.
