Dibutyldichlorosilane is a chemical compound that contains a chlorine atom and has the chemical formula (C2H5)2SiCl2. It is used as a reactive diluent for polymers, such as polyethylene. Dibutyldichlorosilane is also used in the preparation of functionalized polymers, such as polypropylene glycols, by covalently grafting a reactive species to the polymer backbone. The particle size of this compound is typically less than 10 micrometers and it can be characterized using NMR spectroscopic data. Dibutyldichlorosilane has been found to be effective in the conversion of hydrocarbons and other organic compounds into liquid fuels. It is also used as a catalyst for producing supercritical fluids and gas oils by reacting with carbon dioxide.
