When 3,5-Dibromo-2-methylthiophene is irradiated with UV light, one of the isomers in the solid form changes to the other. The structural analysis of 3,5-Dibromo-2-methylthiophene has shown that it contains a dihedral angle of 180° and a methyl group on each side. This compound can be used as a photochromic material for devices such as watches and sunglasses.
