Difurfuryl monosulphide is a carbon source that can be used for the synthesis of furfuryl acetate. It reacts with chloride ion and an electron donor to form a reactive functional group, which reacts with an electron acceptor to produce butyric acid. Difurfuryl monosulphide has been used as an efficient method for the synthesis of furfuryl acetate from its reactants, chloride ions and electron donors such as glutamate or sodium bromide. The reaction product is butyric acid, which is useful in the production of polyurethane foam.
