Descrição:3,5-Diiodo-4-hydroxyphenylpropionic acid (DIPPA) is a nucleophilic compound that inhibits the catechol-O-methyltransferase enzyme and is used to treat cardiac disease. It has been shown to improve ventricular function in congestive heart failure patients. DIPPA binds to the hydroxyl group of the enzyme's active site and competitively inhibits the binding of catechol or o-methoxybenzaldehyde. This prevents the methylation of catecholamines, which are important for cardiac function. The mechanism of action for DIPPA is similar to that of other drugs that have been found to be effective in treating congestive heart failure such as propranolol or amiodarone.
