3,5-Dimethoxy-4-hydroxyhydrocinnamyl alcohol is an inhibitor that is used to prepare a sample for high performance liquid chromatography. It has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on inflammatory diseases in rats by decreasing the production of prostaglandin E2. This inhibitory effect was confirmed using FTIR and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. 3,5-Dimethoxy-4-hydroxyhydrocinnamyl alcohol also inhibits protease activity and taraxasterol acetate synthesis. The carbonyl group in this compound can be cleaved into a hydroxyl group and a low energy molecule with the help of hydrochloric acid.
