3,7-Dimethoxyflavone is a flavonoid that inhibits the growth of cancer cells by binding to the enzyme prenyltransferase. It is also able to inhibit the production of cell-signalling molecules such as prostaglandin and nitric oxide, which may lead to an anti-inflammatory effect. 3,7-Dimethoxyflavone has been shown to have a strong inhibitory effect on rat liver microsomes and can be used in the treatment of cancer. This compound has been shown to induce apoptosis in human leukemia cells while not affecting healthy human cells. 3,7-Dimethoxyflavone has also been observed to have an inhibitory effect on breast tumor cells grown in culture and on explants from mammary glands in tissue culture. The molecule has also been observed to have an inhibitory effect on heart tissue and seems to be safe for use even when administered orally. 3,7-Dimethoxyflavone
