The drug has been used clinically in the treatment of Parkinson's disease, but it is not active against other diseases such as depression or schizophrenia. 3,5-DCMB is one of two enantiomers of dichloroethylbenzoic acid; it is an ethylene transport inhibitor and can be converted into ethylene oxide via reduction by alcohol dehydrogenase.
