2,3-Dibromo-4,5-dihydroxybenzaldehyde is a naturally occurring compound that has been shown to have cancer and antibacterial activity. It is structurally similar to the bromophenols found in some plants, which have been shown to have anticancer activity. The compound inhibits tyrosine phosphatases and reverses the effect of insulin resistance in muscle cells by inhibiting the phosphatase enzymes that catalyze the removal of phosphate groups from tyrosine residues. 2,3-Dibromo-4,5-dihydroxybenzaldehyde has been studied as a dietary agent for reversing insulin resistance.
