This reaction is rapid in solution, with a rate enhancement of about 10-fold. 3,5-Dihydroxybenzonitrile has been shown to be a functional molecule that can be used as the basis for supramolecular chemistry. 3,5-Dihydroxybenzonitrile also has pharmacokinetic properties and homologues that are of interest to chemists. It is mesomorphic and can exist as either a solid or liquid form. The molecular weight of 3,5-dihydroxybenzonitrile is 178.24 g/mol.
