1,5-Diamino-3-oxapentane is a molecule with a chemical formula of C6H14N4O2. It is a precursor to the amino acid lysine and is used in the production of polyurethane. This compound binds to collagen and hematopoietic cells, which may be due to its ability to react with the receptor site on the surface of these cells. 1,5-Diamino-3-oxapentane has been shown to have a bowel disease protective effect through its ability to inhibit inflammation in the gut. The disulfide bond present in this molecule makes it susceptible to metabolic disorders, such as diabetes mellitus.
