- 3,5-Dichloropyridine-4-Carboxylic Acid
3,5-Dichloroisonicotinic acid is a structural analogue of isonicotinic acid and has been shown to have a similar biological activity. It is a ligand that binds to the receptor site of the plant hormone auxin, which regulates plant growth and development. 3,5-Dichloroisonicotinic acid has also been shown to induce phytoalexin synthesis in plants and may act as an antioxidant. This compound has been used as a marker for radiation exposure in humans. 3,5-Dichloroisonicotinic acid binds with high affinity to silver ions, which are toxic to bacteria. The binding of 3,5-dichloroisocoumarin with silver ions leads to rapid inhibition of bacterial growth and death. In addition, this compound has been found in chloroplasts where it may play a role in the regulation of photosynthesis parameters such as carboxylation efficiency and oxygen evolution rate.
