Diphosphinic anhydride is a molecule with a phosphorus atom in the backbone. It is an ionophore, which means that it has the ability to transport ions across a membrane. This compound is used as a reagent for the synthesis of amide and fatty acid derivatives, as well as for the preparation of chiral derivatives by reaction with Grignard reagents. Diphosphinic anhydride reacts with metal ions to form complexes, which can be used in coatings or polymerization reactions. The chloride group on this molecule can be cleaved by hydrogen chloride to form phosphinic acid and HCl gas.
