2,4-Difluoropyridine (2,4-DF) is a drug molecule that has been shown to inhibit the protein synthesis of cells. 2,4-DF interacts with nucleophiles such as hydrogen bonds and hydroxyl groups on amino acids in proteins. It also interacts with the fluorine atom in 2,4-DF. The clinical development of 2,4-DF has been hampered by its low potency and poor oral bioavailability.
2,4-DF is an inhibitor of DNA repair mechanisms and can be used as a diagnostic tool for identifying regions of DNA damage. Radiotracers labeled with 2,4-DF are used to measure the rate of DNA repair in vivo.
2,4-DF is also a ligand for the molecular system that contains trialkylsilyl groups.
