2,4-Difluorobenzamide is a synthetic antiviral agent that has been used to treat hepatitis. It is an alkylating agent that reacts with virus nucleotides and inhibits the synthesis of viral RNA. This drug has been shown to be active against viruses with a C1-C3 alkylamino group (e.g., HIV) when combined with a chloride ion. The reaction yield may be increased by adding hydrochloric acid or sodium hydroxide solution to the reaction mixture.
