2,2-Difluoroethyl acetate is a fungicide with a broad spectrum of activity. It is used to control the growth of fungi on various agricultural crops, such as grapes and tomatoes. 2,2-Difluoroethyl acetate is effective against organisms that are resistant to other fungicides. 2,2-Difluoroethyl acetate inhibits the synthesis of ergosterol in fungi by reacting with an enzyme called cytochrome P450 in the fungal cell membrane. This reaction results in the production of toxic metabolites which cause the death of the fungus. The chemical has been shown to be stable under a wide range of temperatures and pH levels. It can be applied as a liquid or dry powder form and is soluble in organic solvents such as alcohols, ethers, chlorinated hydrocarbons, and ketones.
