1,3-Dichloro-1,1,3,3-Tetrafluoro-2-Propanol is a biologically active derivatization agent that is used in the production of carboxylated compounds. It is used as an electron acceptor and is involved in the oxidation of phenols to corresponding quinones. This product has been shown to be effective in the treatment of cerebrospinal fluid and other tissues. 1,3-Dichloro-1,1,3,3-Tetrafluoro-2-Propanol reacts with phenols and forms a stable ester with the carboxyl group. The reaction can be reversed by acid hydrolysis or base hydrolysis. The product can also be used as a reference substance for chromatography of homovanillic acid and vanillylmandelic acid.
