Dimethylanilinium tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)borate is a copolymerization catalyst that is used to produce polymers. It is a ligand that binds to metal ions such as zirconium and aluminium, which are used in the production of polymers. Dimethylanilinium tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)borate can be activated by metal chlorides such as zirconium dichloride, which also acts as a cocatalyst. It has hydrocarbon substituents in its structure, which makes it able to form bonds with other organic compounds.
