1,4-Dihydro-6-(Trifluoromethyl)Quinoxaline-2,3-Dione is a bile acid. It is the most potent inhibitor of cholesterol absorption that has been reported. 1,4-Dihydro-6-(Trifluoromethyl)Quinoxaline-2,3-Dione binds to the brush border membrane and prevents cholesterol uptake. The concentration of 1,4-Dihydro-6-(Trifluoromethyl)Quinoxaline-2,3-Dione in rat urine is significantly higher than in plasma concentrations after intravenous doses. Studies have shown that 1,4-Dihydro-6-(Trifluoromethyl)Quinoxaline-2,3-Dione can be used as a biomarker for detecting biliary excretion of cholesterol.
