1-(2,6-Difluorophenyl)-1,3-Dihydro-[1,3]thiazolo[3,4-a]benzimidazole is an antimicrobial agent that inhibits protein synthesis by binding to the enzyme glutamate decarboxylase and inhibiting its activity. The drug has been shown to be highly active against Gram-positive bacteria and moderately active against Gram-negative bacteria. In vitro assays have demonstrated that 1-(2,6-difluorophenyl)-1,3-dihydro-[1,3]thiazolo[3,4-a]benzimidazole has minimal toxicity and a low risk of developing bacterial resistance. It is not effective against mycobacteria or fungi and does not inhibit human cell enzymes or erythrocyte lysine 2,6 diaminopurine dioxygenase (LDH).
