5-Ethyl-2-hydroxybenzenecarbaldehyde is an organic compound that has a molecular weight of 176.23 and a melting point of 160 degrees Celsius. It is soluble in alcohol, ether, benzene, chloroform, and other organic solvents. This chemical has been shown to have anticancer activity by inhibiting the production of DNA and RNA. 5-Ethyl-2-hydroxybenzenecarbaldehyde also induces apoptosis in human cancer cells through caspase activation. The cytotoxic effect of this chemical can be explained by its ability to generate reactive oxygen species, which cause oxidative stress and cell death.
