1-(9-Ethyl-9H-carbazol-3-yl)ethanone is a fluorescent compound that belongs to the group of chalcones. It has been used as a ligand for lanthanide ions and has shown low efficiency in photophysical studies. The device was fabricated using electrochemical polymerization, yielding a functional polymer with fluorescence properties. 1-(9-Ethyl-9H-carbazol-3-yl)ethanone also has been shown to be able to transfer electrons from one molecule to another by means of its double bond, which may lead to the formation of ternary complexes.
