Ethyl chloro(diphenyl)acetate is a synthetic compound that belongs to the group of chalcones. It is a white crystalline solid with a melting point of 104-105 °C. Ethyl chloro(diphenyl)acetate has been used in analytical methods for the determination of alcohols, alkene, and ring structure. Primary alcohols react with this compound to produce an acetoxy derivative (ethoxycarbonyl chloride). The reaction conditions can be adjusted to give either the symmetrical or unsymmetrical ethoxycarbonyl chloride derivatives. This compound also reacts with furan to produce 2-chlorofuran and isopropyl alcohol.
